The article considers linguistic and cultural peculiarities of the legal texts translation. The attention is paid to the specific lexis common to legal documents, legal terminology, as well as the features of translation of legal terms, which denote the legal realities of Ukraine, the USA and Great Britain. The main problems of translation of legal documents are described. The work focuses on the investigation of special law vocabulary in English, which gives the opportunity to describe the integral picture of the legal language at the modern stage of the English language development, as well as issues concerning the process of formation and functioning of terms. The legal language is characterized by a specific set of terms. However, irrespective of language, the major part of it distinctive features and peculiarities are explained by the influence of historic, linguistic and cultural factors on the language community. Deep knowledge of legal language and proficiency in legal terminology of both languages are the main factors providing the effective intercultural communication of legal professionals in the process of international cooperation. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to understand that one should not translate from a legal language into the ordinary words of the target language but into the legal terminology of the target language.
