У статті виконано ґрунтовну оцінку реального стану Укрзалізниці в секторі пасажирських
перевезень. Охарактеризовано сильні та слабкі сторони залізничного відомства. На підставі
SWOT-аналізу виокремлено потенційні можливості Укрзалізниці, які в межах дотримання
економічної безпеки підприємства допоможуть вивести залізничну галузь із кризи, підвищити
конкурентоспроможність залізниць порівняно з автомобільним транспортом.

The article provides a thorough assessment
of the real state of Ukrzaliznytsia in the passenger transport sector. The strengths and weaknesses of the
railway department are characterized. On the basis of the SWOT-analysis, the potential opportunities of
Ukrzaliznytsia are identified, which, within the limits of compliance with the economic security of the
enterprise, will help bring the railway industry out of the crisis, increase the competitiveness of railways
in comparison with road transport.
The strengths of the railways, according to the author, are as follows. The presence of an
extensive network of railways with infrastructure facilities. The cost of transport for some transports can
compete with other modes of transport. Independence from weather conditions. Environmental
friendliness of railways in comparison with other modes of transport. Transportation safety compared to
other types of transport. Convenience of movement and recreation over long distances compared to other
modes of transport. Experienced staff. Corporate culture. Implementation of digital services. Adherence
to the traffic schedule.
The author singled out the following opportunities for the development of railway transport in the
field of passenger transportation: renewal of rolling stock with modern wagons, оrganization of highspeed transportation, оrganization of multimodal transportation, оpening of new types of connections,
including international ones, introduction of railway tourism, expansion of the range of services,
expanding services and amenities for people with disabilities, digitalization of services, attracting
investments under concession conditions, creation of passenger transport HUBs at railway stations,
obtaining the necessary funds for development from the Fund for the Reconstruction of Ukraine after the
end of the war.
Thus, despite a number of weaknesses and some threats to the competitiveness of railway
transport in comparison with other carriers, we still have quite significant advantages and expanded real
possibilities of railway transport. We believe that the Ukrainian national railway transport will be
modernized in the modern trend and it will occupy a worthy place in the market of transport services of
Ukraine, undoubtedly ahead of other carriers.
