Висвітлення поліційних дій у медіа: лексичні й стилістичні особливості

Abstract

У статті розглянуто лексичні й стилістичні особливості висвітлення поліційних дій у медіа. Проаналізовано добір оцінної лексики, специфіку використання евфемізмів і метафор, адже мовна репрезентація правоохоронної діяльності формує суспільне ставлення до поліції та рівень довіри до державних інституцій. Виокремлено роль синтаксичних конструкцій у формуванні суспільної думки про Національну поліцію України. Акцентовано увагу на тому, як журналісти добирають слова для опису силових операцій, розслідувань, затримань. Охарактеризовано мову повідомлень з оцінними прикметниками та дієсловами, які підсилюють емоційний вплив на аудиторію. Поряд із нейтральними найменуваннями на кшталт «затримано» чи «проведено обшук» трапляються емоційно забарвлені вирази «гучна операція», «жорстке затримання», «силовики увірвалися». Це створює певний інформаційний ефект, спрямований на формування в читача враження про ефективність або, навпаки, агресивність поліції. Важливим є і використання метафоричних зворотів, що надають репортажам драматизму й роблять текст більш привабливим для масової аудиторії. Разом із тим медіа нерідко вдаються до евфемізмів, щоб пом’якшити можливу критику або уникнути прямих звинувачень на адресу правоохоронних органів. Така стратегія добору мовних засобів має не лише інформативну, а й маніпулятивну функцію. З’ясовано, що мова мас-медіа має високий вплив на суспільне ставлення до поліції. Окреслено важливі аспекти взаємодії між мовою, владою та громадською думкою. The article examines the lexical and stylistic features of how police actions are represented in the media. It analyzes the use of evaluative vocabulary, the specifics of employing euphemisms and metaphors, since the linguistic representation of law enforcement activities shapes public attitudes toward the police and the level of trust in state institutions. The role of syntactic constructions in forming public opinion about the National Police of Ukraine is highlighted. Attention is drawn to the ways journalists select words to describe police operations, investigations, and detentions. The language of reports containing evaluative adjectives and verbs, which enhance the emotional impact on the audience, is characterized. Alongside neutral designations such as “detained” or “a search was conducted,” emotionally charged expressions appear, including “highprofile operation,” “brutal detention,” or “security forces burst in.” Such choices create a certain informational effect aimed at shaping the reader’s perception of the police as either effective or, conversely, aggressive. The use of metaphorical expressions is also important, as they add drama to reports and make the text more appealing to a mass audience. At the same time, the media often resort to euphemisms to soften potential criticism or avoid direct accusations against law enforcement agencies. This strategy of language choice thus fulfills not only an informative but also a manipulative function. The study reveals that media discourse has a strong influence on public attitudes toward the police. Key aspects of the interaction between language, power, and public opinion are outlined.
